College Library

Our library is located to the top right of the stairs at the main entrance of the school. It caters for K-10 students. The library is a bright and inviting place to visit that has some comfy lounges to sit on and read books or just to have a chat and do some socialising. This space is used for regular classes, staff meetings, and meetings in general.

The library building is central to the whole school, it has a stained glass window that depicts the Founders of St James Catholic College; St James, St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Juliane Tenison-Woods and Edmund Rice. Displayed on the walls are paintings done by College staff members (previous and present), Aboriginal artefacts made by students and a painting by Aunty Verna Nichols. There are numerous artefacts displayed around the library that has been done by local Aboriginal artists as well as Catholic symbols that show how we value our heritage and how the two can work together. We also acknowledge our student's accomplishments on different wall plaques on the walls.

The library is open every lunch hour with different activities on certain days. K – Year 4 have dedicated formal library lessons with a duration of 30 minutes. Years 5 & 6 visit the library with their teacher on a dedicated day to borrow and secondary visit if teacher requests or they can borrow items during lunchtime.
