Uniform Update: Summer Uniform required for Term 4
PACER
Our Year 6 students recently participated in an educational tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s History, Culture, Heritage and Democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed funding of $200 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program. This funding was taken on off the total costs that families paid for the tour. Thank you to the Australian Government for this initiative.
Gearing Up for Parent Engagement in Student Learning toolkit
Catholic School Parents Australia has recently announced and launched its Gearing Up for Parent Engagement in Student Learning toolkit. This toolkit is a free resource developed to assist all schools and families across Australia with transitioning students into primary schools and secondary schools as they move through the education system. It aims to develop families knowledge to enable them to engage with the child's learning and wellbeing for all of their schooling.

Aboriginal Art
On Thursday 19 Septemeber, Miss Page visited Year 3/4 to teach us about Aboriginal Art and symbols. We explored ideas and artworks from their culture. We got to use their inspiration for our own artwork. We read The Amazing A to Z dot Painting book by Sally Morgan. We all had a go at creating dot painting using cotton buds and paint. The blue ochre was a rare clay and is not used in our paints very much. After we created our paintings we wrote a story about the picture.

Melanoma Tasmania Visit
Last week, Melanoma Tasmania presented a session on “Sun Safety” to our Year 10 students. As part of the presentation, Ken shared with the students his melanoma story and explained how lucky he was to have a colleague that noticed a ‘weird looking spot’ on his temple. Ken told our students about the risks and dangers of getting sunburnt and how this can lead to a higher risk of developing melanoma.
The Year 10’s learnt how to protect themselves against sun damage and the importance of regular skin checks. Each student received a UV detector wrist band. These bands change colour in the presence of UV light informing the wearer how much UV light is present and the need to take steps to protect themselves from sun damage.
Next term the student leaders will be hosting a “Crazy Hat Day” to help raise funds for Melanoma Tasmania.a (as they receive no funding) and to raise awareness about Sun Safety. Each student that wears a ‘Crazy Hat’ will receive a UV wrist band.
Congratulations!
The pilgrimage begins at Mountain River on Saturday 11 January, and concludes at St James’ Church in Cygnet on Sunday 12 January, coinciding with the popular Cygnet Folk Festival. For further details, and to register go to: www.waytostjames.com.au
