Kinder play time
Rain, Rain go away.
Come again another day.
Kinder students just want to play!
The rain eased off last week and students were delighted to see so much mud to play in! Lucky for gumboots and overalls!
Their learning is self-directed and children have the opportunity to freely engage with the environment, exploring, and discovering. They are developing important dispositions for learning such as curiosity, wonder, risk taking and resilience.
Year 5 Cultural Burning excursion
This term, our Year 5 students took part in a powerful, hands-on learning experience alongside Aboriginal Knowledge Holders and South East Tasmanian Aboriginal Corporation. Working on Country Rangers, exploring the traditional practice of cultural burning. Set on Country, the students learned how Aboriginal people have used fire for thousands of years to care for the land. They discovered how cool burns are used to manage the landscape, reduce fuel loads, promote native plant growth, and protect animal habitats. The learning also included making their own traditional firesticks. This experience supported learning across science, geography, and history, while also building respect for Aboriginal culture and land management practices.
VET Hospitality Work Placement
As our Year 10 VET students work towards the completion of their Certificate I in Hospitality Operations, we want to send out a big THANK YOU to the local businesses who have been involved with their journey. Thank you for hosting our students and helping them to complete their work placement units for the qualifications. Your on-going community support of our students is greatly appreciated.
Year 9 and 10 Speak Up! Stay ChatTY visit
Year 9 and 10 students participated in an impactful session led by the team from Speak Up! Stay ChatTY. The session focused on raising awareness about mental health and building resilience. It provided students with valuable strategies to promote good mental health for themselves and their peers, emphasising the development of grit and perseverance. This engaging, hands-on workshop was highly beneficial, and we sincerely thank the team for traveling down to deliver these powerful messages. We look forward to welcoming them back again soon.
Year 10 Huon Trade Training Centre
Huon Trade Training Centre hosted a selection of our Year 10 students who are considering enrolling there next year. Wonderful to catch up with some of our former students who are there presently.
Southern Storm and Cygnet Football Club colts
Our students presented good luck cards to the Southern Storm and Cygnet Football Club colts, reserves and senior players this afternoon prior to their final training session. What a wonderful opportunity to support our local football club with many past and present students in the teams. SJCC staff and students wish all teams in the Huon Valley, all the best for Saturday.

Demelza Button Makes St James Proud with International Bronze
Great news for one of our Alumni, Demelza Button, who after winning Australian gold in the Global Creative Awards for hairdressing, has just competed in Milan Italy against the worlds best on a global stage and achieved Bronze for Australia.
Her dad, Bill, went on to say as a past student of St. James it is credit to those who taught Demelza and guided her through her years at St James. Just goes to show follow your dreams and it will happen.
Top work Demelza!
(Joe Sandric taught her HPE, and he wonders if that helped?)
