From the Principal
Dear friends of St James Catholic College,
Welcome back to Term 3, 2025!
Each year on the Feast Day of St James two students - one student from Year 5 and one from Year 9 - are presented with the Principal’s award. The recipients of the Principal’s awards model the following qualities:
- all round scholastic achievement;
- all round sporting achievement;
- participation in College activities;
- consistent good behaviour;
- wearing the College uniform with pride;
- care and concern for others.
They live out our FLAMES values of – Faith, Learning, great Attitude, Mutual respect, Encouraging of others and Safety in all aspects of their school life. This year, we are pleased to extend our congratulations to the following students, on being awarded the Principal’s Award for 2025. Congratulations to Clancy Brereton Year 5 and Hollie Wickham from Year 9.
Their nomination for this Award speaks highly of their personal qualities and their commitment to their education at the College.
Congratulations once again Clancy and Hollie and we encourage you to continue to walk in the footsteps of St James and our founders Mary MacKillop and Edmund Rice.
LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Recently you would have received this communication form Elizabeth Radnidge on our LMS:
The parent connection aspect of our College Learning Management System (Connect) is pending further technical work by Catholic Education Tasmania. In the meantime, we are pleased to present a return to Seesaw in the Primary school, to enable class and teacher sharing to allow you to stay connected and engaged with your child's learning.
As this platform can highlight images of the whole class, small groups and individual experiences, please advise our office if your child's photo restrictions have changed in any way. Your child's class teacher will otherwise work within the guidelines we have currently.
Families will receive an invitation to join their child's class over the coming days, and teachers will begin communicating via the platform shortly.
Please note that Seesaw will not replace our whole school notices or information - Compass remains the platform for this. Should you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher directly.
We look forward to further co-developing the system driven LMS and look, especially, forward to Catholic Education Tasmania sorting out with the vendor of the LMS the technical issues.
Whilst on the topic of good communication, I draw your attention to College Board endorsed documents on guidelines for communication between families and staff:

SCHOOL CLOSURE
From time to time, due to extreme weather or other unforeseen circumstances, school may need to be cancelled for the day. Please be aware of how this happened and how it is communicated:
In a nutshell, Mrs Elizabeth Radnidge and Mr Joe Sandric call the weather/incident by 7am, Joe makes the decision then contacts other colleges in our region, Mr Brett Tanner contacts staff via email and text by 7.15am, Mrs Sharlene Duggan contacts families via compass and text by 7.15am and Joe contacts buses.
