7 Blue students visited Parliament House
As part of their current Civics and Citizenship unit, 7 Blue students visited Parliament House last Friday where they toured the House and participated in a House of Assembly role-play. The tour encompassed some of the history of the building and parliamentary practices and the role-play introduced the students to the process of passing Bills through the House of Assembly. Two Franklin Electorate members of the House of Assembly - Jacquie Petrusma and Meg Brown and the Member for Huon in the Legislative Council, Dean Harris, met with the students and answered questions in relation to their roles. The students were very lucky to also be able to meet the President of the Legislative Council.
National Reconciliation week Forum
As part of SJCC’s School Reconciliation Week activities, students were invited to ask questions of a panel consisting of various people working in Aboriginal fields: Trisha Hodge, Mathias Everett, Libby Clarke, Jason Smith, Bryan Denny and Ben Rheinberger. In the lead up to the panel day, students were given opportunities to engage in conversations about reconciliation and were encouraged to formulate questions.
The variety of experience and knowledge on the panel enabled questions to be answered from different perspectives. Students from Years 5, 6 and 7 attended the panel, as well as Year 10 student leaders and other interested students from the school. Year 9 students decorated pots with native plants as gifts to the panel members.
We would like to thank everybody for their contributions and participation.
National Reconciliation week door display competition
The whole school were given a challenge this week - to present an artwork on their classroom door that reflects the theme for National Reconciliation Week.
This encouraged each class to discuss the theme 'Bridging Now to Next' and think about what this means for them.Trish Hodge and Mathius from nita Education were invited to choose a winning door from primary and secondary classes.
We would like to congratulate year 5 and year 8 for winning this year's competition.

VET Hospitality class
As part of VET Hospitality, our Year 10 students are practising their espresso skills on our teachers. As designed by the VET Hospitality class, the Calmer Hall Cafe is a space where teachers can complete lesson planning and marking while students gain valuable experience taking orders and making coffees. The cafe gives our students invaluable experience in preparing espresso coffees, which follows on from their recent fantastic catering efforts.
