Huon and Channel Athletics Carnival

Selected students from Year 3–6 recently represented our College at the Huon and Channel Athletics Carnival in Huonville. They made us incredibly proud—not only with their achievements on the track and in the field events, but also through their fantastic team spirit and sportsmanship.

A big thank you to our teachers and Year 8 helpers for their organisation and support, and to the parents who came along to cheer on our students and encourage them to do their best.

Year 8 Visual Arts

Year 8 have been studing creating 3 dimensions with 2 point perspective. They had to create cities of their own imagining that conveyed feelings based on colour. It has been quite a time consuming project but everyone has done a great job!

Year 8 Garden Class

This term, our year 8 rotation students have been busy in the garden. We have harvested a lot of produce that was planted and the end of last year, and started to prepare beds for next term's crops. The students have also made some garlic bread from the garlic grown in our garden and we had a go at making our cement pots for some succulents that we propagated. It has been an exciting term of hands-on learning in our kitchen garden.

Cultural Camp 2025 Year 9 and 10

To commence Term 1 secondary Aboriginal students, along with some buddies, enjoyed a trip to Spring Bay Mill and Maria Island.

The camp began with a smoking ceremony and introduction to the site of Spring Bay Mill with Luke Mabb. Cultural activities that went into the night included making clapsticks, spears as well as art activities such as decorating clap sticks.

The following day was spent exploring the land with a bush walk across the island. As well as experiencing the sea country and snorkelling with Kaeyo and Ethan from Free Dive Tas.

The final day consisted of a walk and yarn on the beach. We would love to share some trip highlights:

  • I enjoyed diving and touching crabs - Ada
  • Learning about how to dive to the sand bed - Bronte
  • I dove to the bottom and snatched a shell - Hollie
  • Learning about sea country on Maria Island - Emily
  • It was great to see students making spears and improving their skills in the water. I saw the coolest fish with iridescent blue stripes and the most enormous crayfish I have ever seen in the marine reserve. Ms Davies
  • Learning about the old structures on Maria Island - Coby
  • It was awesome to spend time on Country and camp in an amazing place - Mrs Synnott
  • Seeing a wombat digging in the ground, picnicing at the reservoir and doing art - Jaeda
  • I loved getting in the reserve, duck diving and seeing all the students try their hardest snorkeling even in some tiring sea country conditions - Miss Hickey
  • Seeing wombats on Maria Island - Daniel
  • Exploring Maria Island and creating rock stacks at windlass bay - Grace
  • Being out on country - Zavier
  • Learning about making spears - Tyler
  • Going to Maria Island and making spears - Lincoln

Purple Day

On Wednesday all students and staff enjoyed the opportunity to dress in Purple in support of Caritas Australia and Project Compassion. Students were able to purchase biscuits and cupcakes baked by our Year 9/10 VET Hospitality students and have their hair coloured. A huge thanks to our College student leadership team for coordinating the day and our Hospitality students for making the beautiful cupcakes and biscuits. All money will now be sent to Caritas in support of their many projects that help those in need in our Australian and global communities.
