Bus Behavior Matters

Over the course of 2021, our students with a selection from Cygnet Primary , worked on a code of behavior for bus travel.

FOR STUDENTS…

I understand that my behaviour and attitude while travelling on buses impacts on the safety, comfort and wellbeing of myself, the driver and all other passengers.  While travelling on the school buses:

I will…

I will not…

  • Show respect and be courteous to the bus driver and all other passengers
  • Board and exit the bus in an orderly manner and choose safe behaviours at all times
  • Follow all instructions by the bus driver and school staff
  • Respect bus property and the property of others at all times
  • Place my bag(s) and equipment under the seat or in the storage areas provided
  • Place all rubbish in the bin provided
  • Upon exiting the bus, wait until the bus has resumed its journey before attempting to cross the road
  • Wear seat belts if they are available
  • Physically or verbally harass the driver or other passengers (may or may not include swearing)
  • Create unnecessary noise (use inside voices) or move about while the bus is in motion
  • Extend any part of my body out of the windows
  • Throw any object, either inside or outside the bus
  • Eat or drink on the bus
  • Distract the bus driver from their duties
  • Bring illegal or dangerous objects onto the bus
  • Obstruct the aisle, doors or emergency exits

FOR FAMILIES…

I acknowledge that travelling on the school bus is a privilege and not a right, and that inappropriate behaviour on the bus affects the safety of the driver and all passengers.

If walking my child(ren) to and from the bus stop, I will deliver and collect my child(ren) on the same side of the road as they board or exit the bus.

If I drive my child(ren) to and from the bus, I will park my vehicle in a safe location on the opposite side of the road from the bus stop.  I will cross the road to meet my children when they exit the bus and escort them safely back to my vehicle once the bus has resumed its journey.

I understand the above Code of Student Behaviour and have discussed these expectations with my child(ren).  I understand that failure to comply with the Code of behaviour may place others at risk.  I understand that the following process will be followed by the schools if my child(ren) do not comply with the Code of Behaviour:

  1. A first offence will result in a written letter of warning, stating the inappropriate behaviour
  2. A second offence, even if different to the first, will result in a three-day suspension from bus travel, communicated in writing and stating the inappropriate behaviour
  3. A third offence or serious physical assault will result in a two-week suspension from bus travel, communicated in writing and stating the inappropriate behaviour

My child(ren) using the school bus services implies that our family agrees

to comply with all aspects of this agreement.

School Bell Times

Students are welcome on site from 8.30am each day, with our primary classrooms open from 8.40am and secondary homeroom at 8.50am.
Both Primary and Secondary classes begin the first learning session at 9.00am.
Our end of day is 3.00pm for Primary students and 3.05pm for Secondary students - if you are collecting your child, please wait in the quad area until they are dismissed and they will meet you there!

Contact and communication during the school day

If you need to contact your child during school hours, please remember to use the office as the first point of contact. Likewise, please advise your child to see the office staff first for any issue and we will ensure that messages are passed on. This ensures that learning is not disrupted, that phones are 'off and away all day' and reduces any confusion about student whereabouts.
We greatly appreciate your support in using the office as the first point for communication with your child during the school day. Phone: 03 6295 1541

SMS Absence Notifications

The College accepts SMS absentee notifications. Please SMS: 0488 863 246 with your child's name, grade and absent reason. Please save this number in your phone for future reference.

Drink Bottles

Please make sure your child brings a drink bottle to school each day.
