From the Principal
Over the last four weeks, many of our College community members have lost loved family members. As Catholics it is a comfort for many at this time that our loved ones enter into eternal life. Having attended a number of funerals over recent weeks, I was truly moved the strength and love shown by these families in this time of sadness. It is a great testimony to a life well-lived that they were loved by so many.
We pray for:
- Mr Les Slater
- Fr Jack Reilly
- Mrs Beverly Brown
- Mr George Murray
- Mrs Denice Armstrong
- Mrs Julie Kemmis
- Mrs Veronica Ygosse
- Mrs Gabrielle Jennings

The Sacrament of Confirmation and Holy Communion
Last Sunday, the following students completed the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion: Lochlan Turnbull, Maiya Jones, Travis Walter, Tori Direen, Jack Walter, Jack Wallace and Max Cordwell. Attending this special ceremony was a privileged to welcome these young Catholics in our community. His Grace Archbishop Julian Porteous engaged well with the students and wider community. Thank you to Fr Deva, Connie Thomas, Julia Durnin and Karen Newbon for supporting the students on this important journey.

Book Week 2017
The College was filled with marvellous costumes and books last week. Primary and Secondary students had the opportunity to show off their creative flair and share with others their favourite books. I am very proud of our students for their commitment to picking up a book, being involved in the many activities on offer and sharing with others.

Staffing
Welcome to Kelly Du Bois has recently been appointed and will be starting next week as the new College Business Manager. We warmly welcome her and her children to our College community.

Elijah Reardon selected in inaugural Tasmanian SATIS representative team
Elijah Reardon (Year 10 2015) was among six Guilford Young College players selected in the inaugural representative Sports Association of Tasmanian Independent Schools (SATIS) AFL team. The Tasmanian SATIS team travelled to Melbourne to play against a strong Associated Public Schools of Victoria (APS) second team as part of the annual APS v AGSV (Associated Grammar Schools of Victoria) Winter Sports Carnival. The team flew out on Friday morning (11 August) and after a light training session during the afternoon players and support staff watched the Western Bulldogs v GWS Giants game at Etihad Stadium that night. The score line - APS 15.16.106 defeated SATIS 6.14.50 - did not reflect the closeness of the match.
The SATIS team consisted of the best players from each college in this year’s SATIS competition: St Patrick’s College, Launceston (winners of the Tasmanian competition), Scotch Oakburn College (runners-up), Launceston Church Grammar School, the Hutchins School, The Friends’ School and Guilford Young College (finished third on the ladder)
